Within the present fitness world it seems that there is this constant pressure to stay focused on your goal but let loose and live a little, hit your macros but find balance. Go balls to the wall but have a rest day, all or nothing but enjoy life and be in the moment.

Health and fitness can be easily morphed into ?cliques.? We have the right way and wrong way to prep, the best meal plan and the worst, HIIT or LISS, meal plans or IIFYM, Spartan or CrossFit. it's like high school all over again, just in a smaller space... the gym.

As a health professional it saddens me that we often lose sight of the main reason we began eating healthier and working out. For overall wellness! So how do we navigate through to find our own ideal plan? let's start with 5 simple tips.

Tip #1 - Get SMART

Establish S.M.A.R.T. goals using the S.M.A.R.T. goal setting technique can help to create a solid foundation for you to start on.

  • R- Realistic
  • T- Time Based

Tip #2 - Meet with a fitness consultant

Even if you feel you have everything all figured out, it's always helpful to speak with a professional in the field of fitness to go over your baseline, goals and plan.

Most gyms will have an initial fitness assessment that a member can go through. This will allow them to discuss their current regimen, health and wellness baseline, medical history, any previous injuries or surgeries, past experiences with fitness programs, meal planning as well as assistance in S.M.A.R.T. goal setting.

Tip #3 - Create your ?team?

With any life change or goal setting it is important to make sure you are surrounding yourself with knowledgeable, reliable and supportive people. These are your teammates, your core group; the ones that will help you along the way and wont feed you B.S.

The reality is your are going to have those that question you, that bring your down or try to pull you in their direction, but your core group will support you and always have your best interest in mind. One of the most important elements to any champion or successful individual is a strong team.

What is it that you are hoping to improve on or achieve? Start from the inside out.

Aesthetics are great and all but if you are not internally healthy, they mean absolutely nothing. Your body knows best and will speak to you when changes need to be made.

Life will always happen. Whether we plan for it or not. So, it's important to make sure to always keep your priorities straight and be flexible along any journey in achieving goals.

Sometimes, the path that you may have initially thought was the best route for you, may not come to be as great as you thought or it may just not be working as effectively as planned. That is OK. The great part about life is that it does always change, evolve and shift. It Keep us on our toes and learning more about our being.
