1974 Mr. Olympia - Winner Arnold Schwarzenegger

This year was very symbolic for the Mr. Olympia contest since it was the first time that two weight classes took part at the contest. This two-tiered way of categorizing the weight classes was kept until the 1979 season. Held on October 12th, 1974 at the Felt Forum at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the 1974 Mr. Olympia was a major event at the time held for the tenth time.

The two different classes included the 'Over 200lbs' and 'Under 200lbs' class, with a competing method that had one overall winner.

Obviously, the 'Over 200lbs' weight class was more interesting for the viewers at the 1974 Mr. Olympia contest, mainly because of the two massive participants - the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno.

On the other hand, the 'Under 200lbs' weight class had the famous Frank Zane competing against the Italian Franco Columbu. As soon as the competitors stepped on stage, it was clear that both Ferrigno and Schwarzenegger had been working on the T-bar rows. However, the dominance that Arnold had at the time was more than obvious.

The 1974 Mr. Olympia title went in the hands of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was dominating in every possible way which can be seen from the photos of this contest. Gifted and working hard to become the best bodybuilder on the planet, Arnold had a massive chest, big shoulders and deep cuts on his massive quads. Not to mention his height that made him even more superior to Lou Ferrigno. This was Schwarzenegger's fifth Olympia title and a well-deserved one, according to many experts. However, Lou also looked impressive, considering his age (22) and his early steps in the bodybuilding world.

What was also interesting is that Serge Nubret was also listed as a third-place winner but did not compete in the 1974 Olympia contest.
