In 1968, Sergio Oliva was a well-remembered name by the Brooklyn audience. The 1968 Mr. Olympia contest was about to be held in September, and the crowd expected to see all the stars on scene once again.
Sergio Oliva had to meet with some of the toughest opponents - including the names of Sipes, Schwarzenegger, Poole, Draper and other great champions. However, there wasn't a battle. Unbelievably, most of the competitors were busy at the time, which shocked a lot of fans knowing that the popularity for Mr. Olympia was big at the time.

While Harold Poole was busy with his 1968 promotion to a General Manager of a New York business, Dave Draper was into movie making and a lot of guest appearances at the time. Chuck Sipes just won the Mr. World and performed in a lot of strongman stunts the same evening when the Mr. Olympia was held. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the new guy on the scene, had advised the IFBB that he would compete - however, decided to instead compete at the PRO Mr. England competition held on the same day.
So, the entire 1968 Mr. Olympia contest was a one man show. A show where Sergio Oliva was alone and one where he had no fear of any competition. The minute he stepped on the scene, he showed his amazing form and made the judges declare him the winner. After all, there was no one to compete against Oliva - which made the audience disappointed by the missing battle.
Sergio Oliva's development was fantastic at the time. Even though he had no competition, it was easy to see how well-developed his chest, arms and legs were at the time. In a lack of competitors, the audience yelled 'More, more, more!' - excited to see the most from Oliva's form at the time.
