1967 Mr. Olympia - Winner Sergio Oliva

The third edition of Mr. Olympia was once again held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New York. Just like the previous two years, the fans knew where to head on this September day and were looking to be equally impressed from the show as the previous years.

What was missing this year was Larry Scott and his dominance. After his retirement, it was clear that someone else will hold the Mr. Olympia title in 1967. The posing lights waited for the bodybuilders like a dish to be served - and the show was announced and led by Bud Parker, a famous MC at the time.

First on the list of bodybuilders to pose was Chuck Sipes, a popular bodybuilder at the time and participant on the previous Mr. Olympia show. As soon as he stepped on the scene, the audience saw major improvements in his posing and his shape overall.

Next up was Sergio Oliva, which was significantly bigger from the previous year and with a musculature that was seen as an "assault upon believability." Fans couldn't believe how big and well-defined Oliva's body was and had their bets on him the moment he started posing.

Harold Poole got in the shadow of Oliva, and while everyone was excited for him, it was clear that people could concentrate on Poole while still remembering the amazing physique that Oliva demonstrated. Harold was known for his massive biceps and didn't let anyone down that evening. However, the judges decided that the Cuban bodybuilder Sergio Oliva is going to be the winner.

Even though Oliva's performance was amazing that night, a lot of people argue that the 1967 Mr. Olympia was one of the closest contest the scene has ever witnessed. This scratched the surface of possibilities and announced an even better performance the following year at the 1967 Mr. Olympia contest.
