Transformation: Tyler Fleming Destroys a 198 Pound Loss!
What Was Your Life Like Before Your Transformation?
I was reclusive without many friends. I was a type-2 diabetic who was not taking proper care of myself. I went from taking one pill a day to help control my diabetes to eventually needing 6 pills a day total to help insulin sensitivity, blood pressure and my kidneys.
I didn't have much pride in myself and would spend all my time playing online games like Runescape, World Of Warcraft and League of Legends. I used those things as a way to compensate for my lack of self worth. I was good at those games and that's all that mattered because in real life I had no accolades. I didn't get a girlfriend until I was 22 and had already
lost over 150lbs.
Please Detail Your Turning Point
I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I was nearly 400lbs and scared I would die or have other health complications. It took the fear of dying to begin a change for me. I was miserable living in a body that I wasn't meant to be in. I couldn't love myself and didn't know how to.
What Were Your Major Struggles or Challenges?
Building a strong self-worth through the iron. I owe the character and integrity I possess today to the lessons I learned from training.
Detail Your Workout and Cardio Plan During Your Transformation
In the beginning I would try to go to the gym 3 days a week and do basic weighted exercises with dumbbells to the Smith machines. On the days I didn't go to the gym I would walk 2 miles.
I was intimidated to use free weights because I was intimidated by the guys who used that equipment. I didn't feel like I had any right to share a squat rack or flat bench with them. I was weak and fat.
Now I follow a popular full body routine and train 3 times a week. My favorite forms of cardio are barbell complexes, kettlebells and a morning walk.
Detail Your Diet/Eating Plan During Your Transformation
From 392 pounds to 290 I did a low carb diet because it helped me become less insulin resistant and generally kept me more satiated throughout the day.
From 290lbs to now I have transitioned over to just counting calories, generally eating cleaner foods, along with foods I enjoy in moderation. This has allowed me to maintain my weight loss and not regress into bad habits.
Detail Your Supplement Plan During Your Transformation
I only used whey protein to bake with and make a sludge with. Whey was and still is a tool I use when I have a sweet tooth, especially when dieting. It's incredibly flexible in anyone's diet and like water, can take the form of many things.
What Was Your Major Accomplishment, or Major Milestones?
Learning to love myself. This allowed me to unlock a happiness within myself I didn't know existed. I feel normal now. I feel like I can take chances and not be afraid to fail. I can be myself relentlessly and not fear rejection because the only insufferable rejection is rejection of oneself.
Detail Your 2 Biggest Mistakes
- Comparing my journey to others.
- Not adopting a lifestyle right away. I had to learn to turn fitness into a lifestyle and not a 90 day diet and exercise fix to my life and problems.
- Self love is a seed that doesn't grow overnight, in fact it grows painfully slow and sometimes it grows so tall just to die and be replanted but only to grow stronger and taller each time.
- Consistency is a variable to being successful (or unsuccessful) in anything.
- That I'm capable of doing anything I want to do.
Do it for yourself. Doing it for any external reasons like girls, boys, to impress others or to garner attention/fame will only take its toll on you and make you quit when things get hard, boring or stagnant and you don't get the things you wanted as fast, easy or at all like you thought.
Take something from every moment you've suffered and build a stronger version of you. Pay close attention to the lessons being taught when you're enduring something you don't want to do or something you can't control.
Build an indestructible will, desire to preserve and determination that will not only get you through your diet or morning cardio but will also get you through life.
