6 Hacks to Prevent and Treat Hangovers

How can you prevent a hangover like this? How can you move past this debilitating feeling once you have it? While nothing can kill the side effects of drinking and a one-night-stand that you can't remember at all, we can help lessen the affects and have you feeling great again.

Hangover Treatment and Prevention
1) Liver Support
Glutathione is an antioxidant that prevents damage to cells in the body, including the liver. In fact, if you overdose on Tylenol they will give you large doses on NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) in the emergency room. By having elevated glutathione levels when you drink alcohol, as well as during the morning after, you will be in a much better spot for your liver to metabolize and “clear” the alcohol.
Milk thistle standardized for silymarin also helps to protect the liver from toxins. I recommend a liver health supplement year-round. But before drinking I would recommend taking something complete, like Ambrosia Nektar, right before you go out drinking - and as soon as you awake from your drunken stupor.
- Pre-drinking: 1 scoop Nektar
- Post-drinking: 1 scoop Nektar
There is a standard rule of hydration. For every glass of alcohol you drink, down the equivalent liquid of water or seltzer water.
So for an eight-ounce beer, hit an eight-ounce glass of water. Order them as a pair each time. This will not only fill you up, it will prevent dehydration that exacerbates the hangover.
Another thing - Do NOT drink on an empty stomach. Be sure to eat prior to getting your krunk on.
While we sort of covered this, we also need to worry about electrolytes. One way to do that is by mixing MTS Nutrition Naturalyte in your water both before, during, and after drinking.
Taking just one of the major electrolytes, magnesium alone, will help. A lot of people are deficient in this already plus alcohol depletes the body of this essential mineral. So be sure to at least take a magnesium supplement before and after drinking.
While this might also have a diuretic effect, it is very slight. When you wake up, hot blonde next to you of course, have some coffee.
Caffeine can both treat and cause migraines and headaches depending on the person, so this is very individual and might not help with all who try it. The stimulatory effect might also help you feel better after the onslaught of alcohol and 50 cent music. This might be a good time to try Ambrosia Pachamama Peruvian coffee.
When blood sugar drops, your liver reacts and produces more glucose from stored carbs. Because you just drank a lot and your liver is preoccupied trying to clean up your mess, this can hinder that process causes a bit of hypoglycemia.
Having smaller, frequent carb feedings might help to combat that. Something easy, like toast, is a good choice here.
6) Cardio and Exercise
You might not feel like doing anything, but this will get your endorphins going and make you feel better about the 10k calories of Jager-Bombs you drank the night before (not counting the calories burned with the hot blonde).
Get moving. While “sweating it out” is a myth right up there with the “Chupacabra,” it still might feel good to sweat a bit. BUT, we sure to stay hydrated since you might already be in a state of dehydration.
Apply one or all of these tips to help prevent and alleviate that hangover.
