Best Pre-Workout for Women

Pre-workouts are a many-splendored thing. They energize you, amplify your focus, and sustain you through the most trying of workouts. But there's a common misconception with pre-workouts - that they?re only for men!

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Although most of the marketing is geared towards men (images of some jacked up bodybuilder or athlete screaming his head off), women can (and should on occasion) use a quality pre-workout. But, in such a crowded landscape as the pre-workout market, how do you decide which one is right for you?

What Women don't Want From a Pre-Workout

After consulting and interviewing a great many fitness pros and enthusiasts, we've found a common list of things females absolutely don't want when looking to purchase a pre workout. In no specific order they are:

Crazy, Exotic Stimulants

This means no DMAA, DMHA, or Eria Jarensis. While researching this, one thing was clear, women don't want to feel ?cracked? out of their minds with all of these new age stimulants.

Many complained of feeling over-stimmed or nauseous when recounting experiences of products containing these next-gen stimulants.

High Dose of Caffeine

OK, so ?exotic? stims are out, that leaves us with caffeine as the primary stimulant for the energy component of pre workouts. However, most pre workouts are designed for the typical male.

Men are bigger and heavier than women (typically) and have greater stim tolerance than women. While most guys can handle 300mg of caffeine quite easily, most women reported that they prefer slightly lower doses due to their smaller stature and different processing of stimulants as opposed to men.

Lots of Pump Ingredients

Bros love the pump, there's no doubt about that. Virtually every pre-workout on the market features the tagline, ?skin-tearing pumps? or some variation of the phrase.

While women aren?t opposed to getting a pump on arm day, it's not something they really want (especially on chest day!) or seek out in pre-workouts.

What Women WANT in Pre-Workouts

So, what do women want in pre workouts?

Moderate Stim Loads

We?re talking 200-225mg MAX. Also, the slower, more sustained energy release the better.

So, this means going with natural caffeine which is smoother than anhydrous in its stimulative effects, a mix of caffeine anhydrous and dicaffeine malate (for sustained, smooth energy release), or just a lower amount of pure caffeine anhydrous (~175-200mg caffeine anhydrous).
Focus

Women we spoke to almost unanimously remarked that they love to feel ?dialed in? during a workout and ultra-focused. That leads us to the wonderful world of nootropics, a.k.a. ?smart drugs.? These powerful compounds increase various neurotransmitter levels in the body which heighten focus, mood, cognition, and the all-too-important, mind-muscle connection.

Look for ingredients like Alpha-GPC, CDP-Choline, Tyrosine, Huperzine A, and Acetyl L-Carnitine.

Endurance

Want to have the stamina to make it through at 60-90 minute workout and finish the workout as strong as you started? Then you?re best served by investing in a product that contains the full clinically studied dose of proven endurance boosters such as Beta Alanine, elevATP®, and/or Citrulline/Citrulline Malate.

Thermogenics (a.k.a Fat Burning)

Last, but not least, a vast majority of women remarked they enjoy working up a sweat and feeling a thermogenic effect from their pre-workouts. As for which ingredients fit this bill, check out the likes of Grains of Paradise extract, Capsaicin, or Bitter Orange extract.
